Benefits of Membership

As many companies in the outdoor solar lighting industry work together, their collective energy will create the economic and political power needed to trigger steady growth in our industry sector. That is basis on which the Consortium for Solar Lighting (CSL) was formed. Membership in the CSL gives meaningful weight to your concerns and your ideas about building a respected and long-lasting industry sector.

Whether you manufacture any of the components of solar lighting, contribute to the supply chain, or have an academic, financial, or investment interest in the industry, CSL membership engages you with a group of active participants leading the way in defining how successful the solar lighting market becomes.

Advocacy  - The major obstacle slowing acceptance of outdoor solar lighting is the lack of performance/safety standards or guidelines specific to solar lighting product requirements. CSL is already addressing this impediment, working with a national organization with a track record of success developing photovoltaics standards that have been adopted worldwide. Unlike some lighting groups that disallow manufacturer participation, CSL members will work with this standards group to facilitate fair standards that have far-reaching impact on solar lighting businesses.

Education and Awareness  - As the effort to develop new standards proceeds, CSL will design and execute a public relations campaign around the solar lighting fundamentals detailed in Solar Lighting Recommended Practices: Introduction, our preliminary guide to the effective sizing of solar lighting systems. The guide is the first step in CSL's effort to educate specifiers, architects, government/private buyers and other users on the benefits of outdoor solar lighting. CSL has drafted a second issue in its Recommended Practices series, which will be made available to all CSL members.

Website - www.consortiumforsolarlighting.com is the "go to" spot on the Internet devoted to outdoor solar lighting. Through an aggressive public relations campaign, CSL aims to ensure decision-makers know it’s the definitive source of information they need to know in order to make qualified solar lighting purchases. The "Members" page presents contact information and bright logo representation for each member. The "Gallery" page displays images of members’ project installations. And a “Members Only” section ensures members are kept up to date on pending CSL matters, copies of important documents, access to reports, and other industry information.

Regular Communications - Additionally, all members receive quarterly electronic updates and announcements from CSL detailing our work on standards, industry awareness and news story placements, state and federal legislative issues, and more.

Networking - CSL will bring together businesses and individuals whose main responsibility is to ensure their company is a competitive player in solar lighting market. CSL will stage meetings and social events at major industry lighting and solar shows that offer members opportunities to meet suppliers, manufacturers, integrators, solar finance companies, and other professionals important to CSL member companies. Networking is one of the most effective ways for you to promote your business and play a role in growth of the industry. Come be a part of the conversation!
